The raw materials are natural and biodegradable. Jute is grown as a cash crop by family farms in developing countries. Jute requires very little fertilizer or pesticides. During the 3 month growing season, one hectare of jute plants absorbs approximately 15 tons of CO2 and releases 11 tons of oxygen. One ton of dry jute fiber absorbs as much as 7.5 tons of CO2 where as producing one ton of polypropylene emits up to 3 tons of CO2 per ton of material produced.
The substrate can be disposed of by composting to create natural fertilizers to improve soil quality.
